Did you know that after WW1 the US govt went to gauge the desires of the locals in the Mideast. The Arabs wanted democracy under an American mandate and were strongly opposed to Zionism or European rule. The report was suppressed until after Congress endorsed the creation of Israel. The NY Times was furious.
